FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


Q: Is the Wairarapa Balloon Festival still going ahead now we are in Red alert level? 

A: Yes, however Festival organisers have had to pare back the event to ensure parts of the festival can go ahead under the Red alert level. The great news is that the daily ascensions from all 5 Wairarapa locations can still go ahead under any alert level. 

Q: What is a Burner Parade?

A: Our Burner Parade is where the Balloon Basket is on the back of a ute / trailer and we drive slowly down the street in the early evening just on dark. The pilots will let the burners roar with flames shooting high into the air and lighting up the street.

Q: Is the Night Glow cancelled?
A: Unfortunately the “Night Glow” ticketed event that was planned for Saturday 16 April has been cancelled due to the Red alert level restrictions. 
 

Q: How do I get a refund for my Night Glow and camping tickets? 
A:
For Night Glow ticket holders and camping ticket holders you have the option to transfer your tickets to next year’s event (Saturday 8 April, 2023) , donate your tickets to the event, or get a refund (minus any Eventfinda booking fees or credit card fees). Ticket holders will receive an email from Eventfinda with information on how to select your preferred option. Please note if Eventfinda have not received a response from you by 10am on Friday 11 February 2022, your ticket will automatically be refunded (minus any Eventfinda booking fees or credit card fees).

Q: Is Camping still available for motorhomes

A: Yes, camping will still be available for the extended Easter period (12 – 19 April, 2022) at Clareville Showgrounds, for $15 per night, or $10 per night for NZMCA members. You will need to rebook this directly through Clareville Showgrounds, please contact them by email office@waiaps.org.nz, or phone 06 3798124. Click here for more details

Q: Can we have a hot air balloon ride at the event?
A: Ballooning Canterbury will be offering flights during the five day festival. They will start taking bookings in early 2022. Rides will be limited, so bookings are essential. To keep up to dates on when these will go on sale, sign up here

 

Q: Can the weather affect the balloons?

A: Yes, weather does influence the performance of the balloons. Hot Air Balloons prefer light winds to be able to perform to their full potential. If the weather is not suitable we have a postponement date in place, to give us the best chance of providing you with a superior balloon performance.

Q: Is there overnight parking for the motorhomes?
A: Yes we have overnight parking for self-contained motorhomes. Bookings are essential. Please contact the Clareville Showgrounds

Q: Who organises the event?
A: The Wairarapa Balloon Festival is a community event organised by Wairarapa Balloon Society with a whole team of volunteers working hard to make this the best event we can.
